With various sizes and shapes
They seldom have meaning
when they are standing on their own
Of course it is the sequence
that provides context, texture and character
So it is on this that I will stake my claim
But how do I uncover the structure that will
allow me to enter your genuine mind?
I suppose there are some universals
but sometimes I have hardly a clue
Some poets say it is best to speak
straight from the heart
But often I am afraid
My mind is rarely a thing that can be censored
In fact it can even appear to have a will
of it's own
Yet I will spare you the philosophical twaddle
When I am on a roll it is hard for me to stop
And I have long abandoned the dream of creating
incomparable lofty art
For I am an average mind just trying to find it's way
But it is the path that matters most to me now
On every journey I find so much to consider
There are beautiful jewels and scary monsters
and sometimes they lurk together
But today I have the courage to continue my search
I cannot say that it is the right path for me
For I am far too silly to lecture or preach
I will leave this to the wise ones
because I have met so many sagely priests
who seem to know that they are always right
Instead I will stick with my letters
And I will let them fall freely from my disjointed bleeding pen
I have no desire to be clever
but I seem to have a desperate need to express
It is something that I don't quite understand
although I have thought of it often
Perhaps it is the rhythm of the word
that exists in my mind but rarely seems to evoke
a reciprocal response
But it is alright with me
When no one is looking I can still sing and dance
So if it is okay with you
I will continue with my writing
as quirky as it may really be
Because it is the fine letters that are extremely important
And whether I will ever discover a way to arrange them;
it is yet to be seen
So call me a fool if you wish
Or accuse me of false humility
It is the activity that brings a lightness to my heart
And when I do it I feel so happy
So criticize me if you wish but I believe it is time
for me to start
